Overtime an issue for Tenn. medics

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — County paramedics were well represented at Tuesday night's county board of commissioners meeting. The EMS workers were concerned their built in overtime would be taken away, amounting to a 6 percent cut in salary.
A total of $900,000 is built into the EMS budget every year as a perk in lieu of a pay increase.
What rubs some county commissioners the wrong way, they said, is that EMS workers' overtime is calculated on hours earned, not hours worked. That means paramedics can get overtime on vacation or on sick leave.
