RI firefighter allegedly had sex in ambulance

Investigation is under way into claims on-duty firefighter, hospital staffer had sex inside ambulance parked outside Kent hospital

By EMS1 Staff

COVENTRY, R.I. — An investigation is under way into claims an on-duty firefighter and a hospital staffer had sex inside an ambulance parked outside a hospital in R.I.

In a statement released Thursday, Kent Hospital said they became aware of "an incident on the property that took place in late January involving a hospital employee and another individual.

"The hospital employee was not a nurse or a doctor. An internal review was conducted and handled according to our human resources policies. No further detail will be provided as this is a personal matter."

Peter Hanney, a spokesperson for the Department of Health, told WPRO, "Applicants for an EMS provider or an emergency medical technician have to follow requirement that they have demonstrated to the Department of Health that they are of good moral character."

NBC 10 reported the Coventry fire chief is also investigating the claims, but that the firefighter remains on duty.

Jim Delaney Jim Delaney Friday, February 10, 2012 11:59:37 AM Oh my god who really cares about this! So two consenting adults were knocking a piece off on some down time. Good for them, don't hate because it wasnt you! I am sure DOH and the hospital have better things to do. As far as the news...Give me a break and go back to journalism school, asses!
Udo Allain Ammon Udo Allain Ammon Fri Feb 10 12:06:35 PST 2012 Ok, who hasn't. Never with a patient or myself, or male partner, or female partner.
Sam IAm Sam IAm Friday, February 10, 2012 12:47:54 PM Firefighters do this all the time...what do you think the "Hose Bed" is for! Complete lack of professionalism.
Joe Marek Joe Marek Friday, February 10, 2012 2:12:40 PM Stress relief? Humans have been doing it for years! Just take a look at all the Rush Hour traffic and tell me they're not? lol How did all those people get here, you got it, or some one did! I rest my case....lol.
Jake Stein Jake Stein Friday, February 10, 2012 2:15:03 PM Who cares? EMTs and Paramedics frequently have sex in the ambulances with their spouses, partners, former patients who are grateful and hospital staff. It is not news wothy except for those who want to brag about it on the internet forums.
Kevin P. Connors Kevin P. Connors Friday, February 10, 2012 2:40:17 PM who cares...as long as they changed the sheets afterwards.
Linda Ward Brittingham Linda Ward Brittingham Friday, February 10, 2012 4:36:03 PM How is this news worthy? It isn't. It just isn't. If it happened in the back of an ambulance while the patient drove, then maybe...

Burke Duzenbury Burke Duzenbury Friday, February 10, 2012 5:31:20 PM 1st sentence, "on-duty". If you are representative of your entire departments attitude and professionalism, then you also deserve to be fired. Unprofessional act.
Walter Thomas LIttle Jr Walter Thomas LIttle Jr Sat Feb 11 00:51:54 PST 2012 Burke, I agree with you completely. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who sees something fundamentally - and morally - wrong about this.
Devon Jones Devon Jones Sat Feb 11 06:31:47 PST 2012 You guys are just mad because you're not able to tell a story about getting your rocks off in an ambulance. It happens, get over yourself and try it sometime
Joseph Simcox Joseph Simcox Sat Feb 11 08:24:45 PST 2012 Burke it may be morally wrong to some, but as long as they were consenting adults and no one actually saw them, then it's no worse then some one having their significant other at the station. Which if they are outside having intercourse is wrong but what happens behind closed doors is no one else's business.
Burke Duzenbury Burke Duzenbury Sun Feb 12 06:48:37 PST 2012 Devon, you are a dumbass and a discredit to this profession. Joseph, again-it is a question of professionalism, and ethics.
Devon Jones Devon Jones Sun Feb 12 09:12:14 PST 2012 Wow, we're gonna start attacking each others' moral character and work ethic now? How professional is that? Get over yourself. Hate to break it to you, Burke, but the world is a bad place and stupid things are going to be done that you dont like and just because we don't share your "professional and ethical" point of view on something so insignificant, does not make anyone a "dumbass." That being said, the part of "unprofessionalism" comes from the reporter. They were so in need of a story, that had to blow up something that happens quite a bit and isn't really a big deal. NOW,if they had diverted a call or refused to respond, that a different story all together. These trucks are made to get disgusting, and they are made easy to clean up. As long as that was done and the standard of care for any following patients was not compromised, what's the harm? Now we can all speculate on the details, BUT THERE AREN'T ANY. It's the news! These two people could have been in a personal vehicle but the reporter really needed a story so a Chevrolet Cavalier turned into an Ambulance. Nobody knows and it's really not worth getting defensive over.
Burke Duzenbury Burke Duzenbury Friday, February 10, 2012 5:32:53 PM If you can't keep it in your pants for the duration if your shift, then you do not deserve to be part of the brotherhood.

Micky Finn Micky Finn Friday, February 10, 2012 9:12:13 PM Been there did that years ago. Anything for a OMG statement to be made. Grow up!
Marty Munro Marty Munro Friday, February 10, 2012 9:26:21 PM I agree with the comments below. Why is this even news? I'm assuming the hosptial worker did not like where the relationship was heading and decided to report to someone what happened, knowing the firefighter would be in trouble. It probably wasn't a good idea on the firefighter's behalf, but who cares? Maybe the firefighter and the hospital worker were supposed to have a date the night before, but a 911 came in for someone with diarrhea, that forced him into overtime, and he missed his date.
Ed Stachura Ed Stachura Friday, February 10, 2012 9:36:02 PM So they joined the 911 club. BFD! I just hope it we cleaned beforehand, if not, ewww
Ed Stachura Ed Stachura Fri Feb 10 21:36:40 PST 2012 Not we, WAS. Damned fumble fingers!
Robin Inman Robin Inman Saturday, February 11, 2012 7:56:11 AM I'm tending to agree with the side of "What's the big deal?" Ok, to be fair it probably wasn't highly professional BUT was anybody hurt? Was anybody forced to do this? Were they seen by anyone? It doesn't sound like any of the above things were the case so it really shouldn't be news worthy. I'm with the opinions that I hope it was clean (ewwww....if it wasn't) and I hope they cleaned it up afterward. It sounds like either someone of the pair either had loose lips and told the story to someone else and then it eventually landed on the wrong ears OR one of the pair didn't like the way the relationship was going so decided to use this to hurt the other person. Sounds like this situation was between two consenting adults, no one was hurt, nothing was stolen.....so let it go. Go on to something that should be more newsworthy. To all of you pushing the strong moral character and professionalism. Yes, it would be nice if everyone was like that but hey it's just not the way it is. Look at the example of our beloved President JFK. By all accounts he was a great politician a great president (for the short time he was president) yet the man had the morals of an alley cat! As his wife was coming in the front doors of the white house the secret service was shuttling ummmmm ladies of low character out the back door (and this is a matter of record). The difference is that back then journalist seem to have more a grip on what was news worthy and important. Now days they all just want to have pieces that sometimes seem better fit for gossip rags. So jump down off your soap boxes and get back to doing what we're trained to do and that's help save lives. Lets not get into the seedy side of butting into peoples personal lives. (Now if they were running around naked and doing the dastardly deed in the middle of the ER, THEN that would be a problem!).

David Harbour David Harbour Monday, February 13, 2012 1:23:55 AM It seriously bothers me that some of these comments indicate that this "just the way the world is." I've seen more uprofessional behavior, but not in a reeeeeally long time. This is an embarrassement to our profession. We wonder why we are given more respect in the medical community? Keep your sex out of your work. Are you seriously telling me that this firefighter was doing his job? Was he ready to respond if there was a child in cardiac arrest? NO! UNACCEPTABLE!
Aaron A Myers Aaron A Myers Monday, February 13, 2012 9:01:18 AM In 14 years in ems I've seen a hell of a lot worse moral and ethical violations, and usually preformed by those actually in charge... the ones that get "busted" are usually busted by the very ones who commit the very act or worse..
